  • Tap in and tap out. Skip the tap-out and you lose the transfer discount — and may be charged the maximum fare next time.
  • Bus ↔ subway and bus ↔ bus transfers are free within 30 minutes (60 minutes between 21:00 and 07:00), up to four times. The combined trip is charged on total distance: ₩1,500 covers the first 10 km, then ₩100 per 5 km.
  • A growing number of Seoul buses are cashless. Where cash is still taken it costs ₩100 more and you get no transfer discount — carry a T-money card.
  • Regular buses run from about 04:30 until between 23:00 and 00:30 depending on the route. After that, look for an N-line Night Owl bus or take a taxi.

How do I pay for the bus in Seoul?

Tap a T-money or other transit card on the reader when you board, and tap again when you get off. Many routes no longer take cash; where they do, it costs ₩100 more and you get no transfer discount.

Is the bus or the subway cheaper in Seoul?

They start at almost the same price (₩1,500 vs ₩1,550). Buses are a flat fare inside Seoul, so a long bus ride can be cheaper; subway fares grow with distance.

How late do buses run in Seoul?

Regular buses stop between about 23:00 and 00:30. Night Owl buses (route numbers starting with N) run every 30–40 minutes until about 04:00 along major corridors for ₩2,500.
